When Miguel Mateu bought the Peralada Castle in 1923, one of his main goals was to bring back its winemaking tradition. A tradition that has its origins in the XIVth century, when the Carmelite monks who lived in the monastery annexe to the castle already produced an excellent wine. This is how Cavas del Castillo Perelada was born, in the heart of the Empordà region. In the northeastern corner of Spain, on a land of privileged geo-climatic conditions thanks to its proximity to the Mediterranean sea and the extraordinary heterogeneity of its soil. Today, Javier Suqué, grandson of the founder, keeps alive a spirit that brings together tradition and modernity. Castillo Perelada is nowadays a prestige reference, backed by the numerous international prizes won throughout the years by wines and cavas such as Gran Claustro, Finca Garbet or Finca Malaveïna.
